Paris day 2

Our apartment “La Residence Valadon” is in the heart of Invalides/Eiffel tower district of Paris. It has everything we need including a washing machine, free wi-fi and a free telephone. We have been able to call home, it was great. The living area is comfortable and the bedroom is good. The kitchen and bathroom are tiny, but we aren’t complaining. Tuesday morning we left the apartment, walked about 250 metres and voila!

It is very exciting to be staying so close to the Eiffel tower. We explored the area around the apartment, got ripped off for breakfast. We should know by now not to order without seeing the prices first. There are market stalls along the Rue Cler, which is our next street down so we did a bit of shopping. Fruit and cereal for breakfast for the next few days. We then headed back to the Tower and walked along the Seine for a while.

When we were in Paris last time we didn’t get to Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur church so we went there next.

Of course no visit to Montmartre is complete without seeing the Moulin Rouge.

DSC_0029 It wasn’t as big as Claire thought it would be and Peter hung around for a while but no dancers came out.

The transport card that we purchased covers metro, train and buses, so we thought we would catch a bus back for a change. The Metro is very good but you miss a lot of the city travelling that way. The bus travelled through the roundabout around the Arc de Triomphe. We were glad someone else was driving!

We ate at another restaurant 40 metres from home “Tribeca” and joined up with a couple Bill & Tracy from Colorado. It was fun, we stayed out until after 11 which is remarkable considering we are averaging 15 km a day walking.

  1. Mmm, a bit more difficult but I'm guessing Peter.
How am I going so far?

  2. Jealous! I didn't get to see Montmarte when I was in Paris. If you're after a show, Shan says the Moulin Rouge is crap but the Crazy Horse is a lot of fun.

  3. If you are looking for something different to do try the "Fat Tire" bike tour through the city, Versaille or Monet's Garden. It certainly gives you a different view of the place, and was great fun. The one for Paris meets at the Eiffel Tower, so not far from you. Julie http://fattirebiketours.com/paris/tours
