Amsterdam 2

Well, we certainly got value from our Amsterdam card today. We started with a visit to the Van Gogh Museum. There was a special exhibition of Van Gogh and Japan. It was fascinating as we had no idea of the influence that Japanese printmaking had on him. Next stop was the Rijks Museum. There were so many interesting pieces, not just paintings.

Claire was very happy to see Rembrandt's "The Night Watch", along with many more of his paintings.

By now we were getting a bit tired so an hour long canal cruise was a good way to have a rest.

What does a microbiologist do when she goes to Amsterdam? She visits the world's only microbiology museum. Claire was in her element!

There was a wonderful display of glass representations of microbes.

Peter has caught a cold, so by this time he was starting to wilt. Luckily there was a bar near the entrance to the Zoo, so while he had a rest and a beer, Claire used the card again to spend an hour in the Zoo.

We leave tomorrow with so many more things that we could have seen, but we have had a great time.
