Doha part 2

After the Islamic museum we walked around the harbour to visit the various attractions in the district. There was an entire fleet of Dhow ships, the Pearl Monument , the old well, the clock tower, the camel souq and the souq waqif markets. It was very hot in the sun so we were seeking shade at all parts of the walk. The camel souq looked interesting from a distance, but when we got up close we realised that they were on very short tethers.

The Souq Waqif markets  were only beginning to open up when we visited. We were told that they only began to come really alive in the late afternoon and into the evening,

We had only had a few hours of sleep as we arrived very early in the morning. By about 3pm we were running out of puff. Originally  I (Peter) had wanted to have an evening meal at the "Parisa Souq Waqif" restaurant, which had rave reviews after my internet search.  So instead we decided to have a  smallish late lunch.

The Parisa is an oppulent Persian restaurant decorated to the extreme. Although we only place an order for one meal for us both to share the complimentary flat bread and salad along with the other tasty things placed on our lamb dish made it a great meal. The staff fussed over us and the whole meal lived up to the reviews I had read. After the meal, we were invited to view the VIP room.

We headed back to the hotel for a few more hours of sleep to catch up with our sleep deprivation.

Later that evening we headed down to the bar restaurant in the hotel for some drinks and some light snacks. Before Claire arrived I had met up with Greg who was a Welsh construction engineer who was inspecting the work performed on the Doha metro system being put in place for the Qatar World Cup.

Greg was great company and we spent a couple of hours together exchanging stories over the meals and some drinks,
