Stirling to Keswick

I'm sure it was a Scottish poet who wrote " The best laid plans of mice and men", but it wasn't until we were in England that we hit our first hiccup. We have purchased the English Heritage pass and Carlisle Castle was the first place over the border where we could exchange our voucher for our pass. Unfortunately Carlisle Castle is closed today and tomorrow.

Claire about to be turned away from Carlisle Castle.

The upside is that is gives us an extra day on the pass in London, assuming we find somewhere tomorrow to get our pass. We were going to spend an hour or so at the Castle but decided to push on to Penrith.

It turned out to be a very pleasant stop. Navigating has been fun. We have managed to miss 2 exits so far, luckily we haven't had to go too far out of our way to recover. We found our B & B in Keswick without too much trouble.

The light grey building on the corner is our home for tonight.

Keswick is on Lake Derwentwater (the home of Derwent Pencils, there is even a Derwent Pencil Museum). After the drive we were happy to stretch our legs with a good walk along the lake.

Our host had recommended a couple of place to eat and we decided on a Mexican Tapas bar and we weren't disappointed.

Great photos,by the way! Pity about the castle being closed but it's good you've still been able to see the other 97.

    1. Not really, it was just a convenient place to stop and pick up the pass. I wanted the info so we could plan our next few days.
