Amsterdam

We have decided to skip ahead to our current days. We will try to catch up with the cruise days that we have missed, but it easier to write about the day we have just experienced.

Today we explored Old Holland, starting with a trip to the fishing villages of Volendam and Marken. There is a ferry between to 2 villages and while we were waiting for the ferry we had to have some genuine Dutch pancakes.

The harbour at Volendam.

The village of Marken.

Next we were off to Zaanse Schans to visit some windmills. It is an area of traditional houses, windmills and workshops. Some of the windmills are originals and some have been reconstructed.

Our Amsterdam card gives us free entry to lots of different attractions one of which was the Zaan Time Museum. It had an amazing collection of clocks.

It also included entry into several of the working windmills. The sawmill was very interesting.

After a day of travelling on the Metro, buses, a ferry and trains we ended up back in the Red Light District for dinner. We ate at the Old Church Bar, next to the old church right in the middle of the district.
